The Gaze is currently in a closed testing phase. These terms cover the service as it exists today; they will be revisited before any public commercial launch.
These terms are an agreement between you and the operator of The Gaze, referred to here as "we" or "us". Creating an account means you accept them. If you don't agree, don't create an account or continue using the app.
You must be 18 or older to use The Gaze, with no exceptions. By registering you confirm your date of birth is accurate. We remove any account we find belongs to someone under 18, without notice.
You're responsible for keeping your password secure and for anything that happens through your account. If you think someone else has access to it, tell us straight away — write to admin@thegaze-dating.com, or use the in-app feedback form if you can still sign in. You may only hold one account, and it's for your own personal use — not for anyone else, and not for any commercial or automated purpose.
Breaking any of these is grounds for removing your account, with or without warning, depending on severity.
You keep ownership of your bio, messages, and photos. By posting or sending them through The Gaze, you give us the limited licence needed to store, transmit, and display that content as the app is designed to work — for example, delivering a message to your match, or revealing a photo once you've both chosen to share one. We don't sell your content or use it for anything beyond running the service.
You're responsible for what you post. Don't share anything you don't have the right to share, and remember that anything you send another member is, from that point on, also on their device — withdrawing a staged reveal photo stops it being sent, but can't recall a copy that's already been delivered.
You can block or report anyone, at any time, from their profile — this immediately hides you from each other and erases your shared history. We review reports and may warn, suspend, or permanently remove an account that breaks these terms. We may also remove content or restrict a feature for anyone, at our discretion, to keep the app safe.
Every photo sent through The Gaze — in a chat or staged for a mutual reveal — is checked automatically before it is delivered, and a photo containing nudity or sexual content is refused. It is not stored, and it never reaches the other person. Refusals are recorded against your account: after three, the account is suspended, and sexual content involving anyone who appears to be a minor suspends it immediately. A suspension is applied automatically, but a person reviews it — write to admin@thegaze-dating.com and we will look at it, and we will reinstate an account the check got wrong. Because the check is automated it is not perfect in either direction, which is why reporting a photo you receive still matters.
The Gaze Premium is offered as a recurring monthly, annual, or (for verified students) semester subscription, priced in your local currency and shown before you buy. A single Boost is a one-time, non-recurring purchase.
Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period unless you cancel before it renews. If you subscribed through the App Store or Google Play, billing, renewal, and cancellation are handled by Apple or Google under their own terms — manage or cancel it from your device's subscription settings, not inside The Gaze. If you paid by card through the web, you can manage or cancel from your Profile at any time; cancelling stops future renewal but doesn't refund the current period. Student pricing requires an active, verified university email and reverts to standard pricing if verification lapses.
If you're a consumer in the UK or EU, you normally have a 14-day right to withdraw from a purchase without giving a reason. For a digital service like Premium or Boost, that right ends early if you ask us to start providing the service immediately and confirm you understand you'll lose the right to withdraw once we do — which is exactly what happens when you subscribe or buy a Boost through the app: access starts immediately, and completing the purchase means agreeing to that immediate start and giving up the 14-day right for that purchase. This doesn't affect any other consumer right you have, including cancelling a subscription's future renewals at any time.
The Gaze helps you discover people you've physically crossed paths with, and helps you talk to people you've matched with — it doesn't verify anyone's identity, run background checks, or vouch for any member's intentions. You're solely responsible for your own safety in any interaction, online or in person. Use ordinary caution: meet in public, tell someone where you're going, and trust your judgement.
The Gaze is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, while it remains in testing. We don't guarantee the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that it will result in any particular match or outcome. To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential loss arising from your use of the app, or from the conduct of another member — online or in person.
You can delete your account at any time from Profile, then Delete account — this is immediate and permanent. We may suspend or terminate your access if you break these terms, if we're required to by law, or if we discontinue the app. Sections that by their nature should survive — like content licensing for messages already delivered, and limitation of liability — continue to apply after your account ends.
We may update these terms as the app develops, particularly moving out of testing toward a public launch. We'll update the date at the top of this page when we do. Continuing to use The Gaze after a change means you accept the updated terms.
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. This doesn't remove any statutory protection you're entitled to as a consumer in the country where you live.
Questions about these terms, or anything else: write to admin@thegaze-dating.com, or use the in-app feedback form. See also our privacy notice for how we handle your data.
